The Northwest of Tasmania: Stanley and the Tarkine
Stanley is a picturesque town on a peninsula, below a towering volcanic plug, “The Nut”, offering great views. As there are more locations on the north coast, Fairy or Australian little penguins can be seen here. The Tarkine Drive leads to the rugged northwest coast and loops around through cool temperate rain forests with sinkholes forming quiet lakes. South of the town of Penguin are the Gunns Plain Caves with spectacular stalactites and “shawl” formations, and the deep Leven Canyon with walking trails to the lookouts.
