Southern Swaziland
The south of Swaziland has landscapes of every variety the country has to offer: the Middleveld of southern Manzini District, the Highveld of central Shiselweni district and the Lowveld of the southern Shiselweni and Lubombo districts. The Great Usutu (Usutu Lenkhulu) is one of the country's main rivers, passing near the town of Sidvokodvo, south of Manzini. Further south is the Mkondo river, previously known by the Afrikaner name "Assegai" (Spear) that flows through the Grand Valley near the town of Hlatikulu and through the Mahamba Gorge, just west of Nhlangano on the South African border. There are many small homesteads here.
Further to the south east the country is the Lowveld, the lower lying and generally drier country close to the South African border. There are the small communities of Hluti and, at the far south eastern corner, Lavumisa. Formerly known as Gollel, it is just across from the South African town of Golela. This is a land of small farms, as in most of the country. Further north is Big Bend, in Lubombo District, still in the dry Lowveld with the Lubombo mountains, on the border with Mozambique, in the background and small traditional homesteads like Sencandweni.
