Independence Celebrations in Swaziland
Swaziland's Indepence, reestablished on 6 September 1968, is celebrated each year. The main ceremonies, where the King addresses the nation and dances with his regiments, are held in Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba, the Royal capital. It showcases Swaziland's traditional culture with hundreds of men in traditional dress, with shields and "sakila" fighting sticks. It includes not only the King, but also the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet.
But, because not everybody can go to Lobamba on that day, there are always local celebrations held all over the country as well. here too will be plenty of traditional dancing by the Swazi regiments, by groups of girls and women and there will also be the "Sibhaca" dances ny young men and boys, accompanied by large drums. And there will be fermented maize beer, or "tjwala", of course.
